Osun declares Thursday public holiday for rerun election

The Osun state government has declared Thursday public holiday for the governorship rerun election.

In statement on Wednesday, Sola Fasure, special adviser on media to the governor, said the holiday would give room for public workers to participate in the supplementary election.

The exercise is scheduled to hold in seven polling units across four local government areas.

The affected units are in Ife north, Ife south, Orolu and Osogbo local government areas of the state. The total number of affected voters are 3,498.

Joseph Fuwape, the returning officer, had declared the Saturday governorship election inconclusive after the margin between the two major parties was lesser that the total number of votes cancelled in the affected areas.

Although 48 political parties would partake in the exercise, it is a two-way race between Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) which came third in the election has entered into an alliance with the APC.
