PDP senators withdraw support for Buhari

Ten months after the ‎Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the upper chamber of the national assembly declared support for the government of President Muhammadu Buhari, the opposition lawmakers have backed down.

The legislators announced their decision at the end of plenary on Wednesday.

In a statement read by Emmanuel Bawcha, deputy minority leader, the PDP senators said the reason for their decision was because of the “belligerent” stance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ‎government.

“We condemn the plot to remove the senate president and his deputy through illegal means,” Bawcha said.

” We will no longer cooperate with the APC government until they cease their belligerent acts.”

The senators also described the freezing of the bank account of Ayodele Fayose, Ekiti state governor, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), as a political witch-hunt, and advised the government to act with caution.

“The freezing of account of Ekiti state governor is a clear political witch-hunt,” he said.

“We wish the government to act with caution and desist from acts of lawlessness.”

Back in August, Godswill Akpabio, minority leader, joined 48 of his PDP colleagues to express their determination to support the president.

“The PDP senate caucus reiterates its support to M‎r President Muhammadu Buhari and his quest to bring about a greater Nigeria,” Akpabio had said.

“The PDP senate caucus, despite its formidable strength, has resolved to offer only credible opposition that would lead to the building of a better Nigeria. The caucus will give him all the needed support to ensure his success as president.”

  1. The PDP senators should know that the era of criminality and impunity in the name of family affairs is dead and buried. The APC government will operate with or without their support. After all, how many of them got there through genuine vote of the electorate?

    1. Even PMB got there fraudulently by under age voters and no WAEC certificate. If PMB had waec certificate he won’t be suspending the trial indefinitely at the court. He is as corrupt as those in pdp

  2. PDP Senators should know that we Nigerian are wiser than ever, so if they feel we will never break frm corruption they should think again.

  3. PDP senator should check themselves. since most of the senators are there for their pocket not Nigerian interest anything can happen

  4. We keep wasting our energy in this country on mundane things. We live in a world that is becoming very global and complex.I hear that Venuzela an oil exporter like us is experiencing commodity shortages and riots have broken out.Do we in Nigeria think we are far from such riots breaking out in Nigeria? Venuzela’s neighbours are making plans to provide succour to her. Nigeria will have no such luck. Our Country is dying and we are idling by. Nations that ate richer than us are scrambling to attract foreign investment from China the new economic giants in the world. We are busy fighting one another over trivalities. The UK has just voted to leave the EU. In just hours after the verdict. They have started to prepare for the realities that will come with that choice. In Nigeria 14 months into a new administration we have no clear cut path as to where we are going. I weep for my country.

  5. Is good that PDP Senators turns back against this Ungideded government. l had never see democracy government that look like military like this.God is angry with APC Government.

  6. l have never see a democracy government that looks like Military like this before. is seem Nigeria doesn’t follow constitution anymore for their dealings. Is good that PDP Senators had withdrawn their support from this Ungideded government. God is angry with the APC led government.
