Suicide bombers hit Maiduguri, ‘kill 9’

Two suicide bombers struck in Maiduguri, capital of Borno state, in the early hours of Saturday, killing nine people.

Sani Datti, spokesman of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), said 24 persons who sustained injuries have been taken to hospitals.

A witness said the first attack, which occurred at 6am, was in front of a camp for the internally displaced persons (IDP), while the second happened minutes later.

Residents saw bodies being carried into an ambulance by government emergency services, according to NAN.

This is happening 17 days after a convoy with military escort was targeted in the state.

Ten people died in the tragic incident.

The latest attacks occurred less than 24 hours after Rabe Abubakar, defence spokesman, said the military had succeeded in degrading the sect.
