The Kaduna state government says train services on the Abuja-Kaduna route may be suspended from November 19.

The development comes amid the announcement by the National Union of Railway Workers (NURW) to embark on a three-day warning strike nationwide, beginning on the midnight of November 18.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the government said the railway employees said they would embark on an indefinite strike over low wages and salaries.

The government advised commuters to make alternative plans for their movement on the route.

It also said negotiations regarding the planned strike are ongoing and promising to keep commuters updated on any developments.

“Employees of the Nigerian Railway Corporation providing services for the Kaduna-Abuja train transportation system, plan to embark on an indefinite strike over low wages and salaries,” the statement reads.

“The industrial action is scheduled to commence on Friday, 19 November 2021. Kindly stay informed and make alternative arrangements for your movement from Kaduna to Abuja.
