The Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company has vowed to prosecute any of its customers who assaults its officials on legitimate duties.
In a statement on Wednesday, Abdulazeez Abdullahi, the company’s head of corporate communication, said Buratai Ahmed, one of its officials, was beaten on Tuesday for attempting to disconnect a customer’s power supply at Rigasa community, Igabi local government area of the state.
He said the customer who had not paid his electricity bill ran away after assaulting the official.
Abdullahi said the company will pursue all related cases to a logical conclusion and ensure that perpetrators are brought before the law.

“The latest incident which occurred on Tuesday, December 3rd, at Unguwan Muszu, Rigasa Area Office, involved one of its linesmen, Buratai Ahmed, who was assaulted and left with severe injuries by a customer who resisted having his property disconnected for failing to settle the current charge on his electricity bill,” he said.
“Although the culprit is still at large, the matter has since been reported to the police who have vowed to ensure he is apprehended.
“The company operates a zero-tolerance policy to bills payment default hence any customer who fails to pay shall be denied power supply after following due process as stipulated by regulation.”

The distribution company spokesperson urged customers to settle their electricity bill as and when due to avoid being disconnected.
