Muazu Usman, director of environment, Kaduna state ministry of environment and natural resources, says educating people on climate change is needed for them to be able to mitigate its impacts.
Usman said this on Tuesday in Kaduna during a sensitisation workshop for students, civil society organisations and community leaders, organised in the state by the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP).
He said one of the mandates of the NEWMAP project was on how to handle and manage the environment for sustainable development.
“Many people are yet to believe or understand what climate change is all about, so, sensitising them will be a step towards ensuring that they operate on climate favourable equipment at home,” he said.

Also speaking, Jibril Dahiru, coordinator of NEWMAP in Kaduna, said it had become necessary to check the menace of erosion as well as pollution towards ensuring a safe environment.
