Jonathan Asake, governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Kaduna, has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of “poisoning people’s minds” against his candidacy.
Ahead of Saturday’s elections, there have been talks that Asake will hurt the PDP in the main opposition party’s strongholds in the state.
The development has pitched the Kaduna PDP against the LP in the build-up to the governorship and house of assembly elections.
Recently, the campaign council of Asake criticised the PDP for allegedly peddling rumours that the LP candidate has withdrawn from the race.

Speaking with journalists on Thursday in Kafanchan, Jema’a LGA of Kaduna, Asake also denied allegations that he collected N100 million from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to ruin PDP’s chances in the state.
The LP candidate challenged the PDP to come forward with evidence that he has a political deal with Nasir el-Rufai, Kaduna governor, and Uba Sani, APC governorship candidate.
“They are poisoning people’s minds that I am being sponsored by Uba Sani so that the votes of Southern Kaduna will be split and Uba Sani will win,” he said.

“None of the leaders of the PDP could face me and ask for a round table, instead they resorted to using proxies to get me to step down.
“They want to convince the electorate that a vote for the Labour Party is a vote for the APC.
“All these, of course, are lies. I have never and will never sit with Uba Sani and Nasir el-Rufai for any kind of political deal.
“I challenge anyone to come up with a shred of evidence that we ever met not to talk of collecting money from them.”
