Kaduna guber: Tribunal fixes Aug 5 for Uba Sani to open defence

The Kaduna state governorship election tribunal has asked Uba Sani to open his defence in the petition challenging his victory as governor of the state.

Victor Oviawe, chairman of the tribunal, said Sani, his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are expected to open their defence on Saturday.

The judge also gave the respondents 10 days within which to conclude their defence.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Muhammad Isah-Ashiru, are challenging Sani’s victory in the March 18 poll.

The petitioners are praying the court to nullify Sani’s victory.

The petitioners closed their case at the court session on Thursday.

Sani scored 730,002 votes to defeat Isa-Ashiru who polled 719,196 votes in the election.

Lawal Bilbis, INEC state collation officer, announced the results of the election at the commission’s headquarters in Kaduna.

He said the Labour Party (LP) candidate recorded 58,283 votes while the Nigerian Peoples Party (NPP) candidate got 21,405 votes.
