Kaduna peace committee worried over killings

The Kaduna state peace commission has expressed worries over the security challenge in many parts of the state.

Josiah Idowu-Fearon, chairman of the commission, gave his concern at a news conference on Wednesday.

He said insecurity is most prevalent in Birnin Gwari as well as some parts of Chikun, Igabi, Kachia, Kajuru, Kagarko and Kauru local government areas.

He noted that although peace had returned to some areas where there was conflict, efforts must be focused on areas which just recorded violence.

“The challenges of insecurity in many parts of the state are quite worrisome. This is most prevalent in Birnin Gwari LGA as well as many parts of Chikun, Giwa, Igabi, Kachia, Kajuru, Kagarko and Kauru local governments,” he said.

“We appeal to the people of the state, as well as the security agencies to join hands to address this unfortunate situation of armed robberies, raiding of villages, kidnapping, rustling of cattle and other forms of rural crime.

“You will recall that when this commission was inaugurated, violent intercommunity were prevalent in many communities, particularly in the southern senatorial zone.

“It is gratifying to observe the relative calm, tranquility and gradual return of peace within those areas, particularly in the most conflicts affected LGAs of Jema’a, Kaura, Zangon Kataf and Sanga.

“Even though the confrontations are yet to be fully resolved as was recently witnessed in a community of Sanga LGA, efforts are continuing to bring lasting peace and stability in the areas.”
