The Kaduna fire service says it recorded 12 deaths and 325 fire incidents in 2023.
Speaking with NAN on Monday, Paul Aboi, director of the service, said the incidents were recorded in Zaria LGA, Kafanchan and Kaduna metropolis.
Aboi said the Kaduna fire service saved property worth N6.5 billion from destruction, adding that property worth N3.5 billion was destroyed by fire last year.
He said 17 persons were rescued while 26 others sustained injuries from the incidents.

The director said carelessness, improper use of electrical appliances, and bush burning were causes of the incidents.
He said the service is making efforts to reduce fire incidents in the state by unveiling a comprehensive initiative on fire prevention, inspection and embarking on the renewal of fire safety certificates across business premises in the state.
“The Service saved property worth about N6.5 billion from destruction while property worth N3.5 billion was destroyed within the period under review,” Aboi said.

“Although we cannot totally eradicate fire outbreaks, we are trying to minimise them, and also the negative effects on people and the economy.”
