The Kaduna chapter of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has commended Uba Sani, governor of the state, for regularly paying the consolidated medical salary structure (CONMESS).
In September 2023, the governor approved the full implementation of the 2014 CONMESS for doctors in the state.
Members of the association embarked on an indefinite strike over the failure of the government to meet their demands in August 2023.
In a letter addressed to the governor, the association said the implementation of CONMESS has addressed the problem of internal brain drain in the state’s health sector.

The association said brain drain has caused doctors to move to tertiary health facilities.
The ARD said the governor’s initiative has increased hope among doctors, adding that it has also solved healthcare challenges.
“We commend Governor Uba Sani for his bold move towards improving the welfare of state doctors,” the association said.

“His actions have shown that he is committed to addressing the challenges facing the healthcare system in Kaduna state, and we are grateful for his leadership.”
The association urged the governor not to relent on improving the healthcare system in Kaduna.
