Kaduna shuts school, orders arrest of principal, vice over death of student

The Kaduna government has ordered the arrest of the principal and vice principal of Al-Azhar Academy over the alleged murder of Marwanu Sambo, a JSS3 student of the school.

On Friday, Sambo was reportedly killed during a series of punishments meted out to him for absenteeism by multiple teachers in the school.

Speaking on the matter, Usman Zaria, the director-general of the Kaduna State Schools Quality Assurance Authority (KSSQAA), said the school has also been closed and will remain sealed pending the outcome of the investigation.

Zaria said the decisions were made after a fact-finding team visited the scene of the incident, the deceased burial ground and the family home.
