Kaduna to recruit 1,800 health workers, upgrade 255 PHCs

Uba Sani, Kaduna state governor, has approved the recruitment of 1,800 health workers to fill the personnel gaps across all primary healthcare (PHC) facilities in the state.

Umma Ahmad, commissioner of health, said the recruitment will address the gaps in human resources at the facilities, leading to a significant reduction in maternal and child mortalities, and improved well-being of Kaduna citizens.

This, she added, will strengthen the state’s leading role in primary health care.

The commissioner noted the revitalisation of 255 PHC facilities, provision of equipment, and distribution of essential drugs across the state is ongoing.

According to Ahmad, the 255 PHCs in the state will be remodeled and upgraded to level two status as part of Sani’s determination to overhaul the state’s health sector.

She added that the upgraded PHCs will undertake management of uncomplicated diabetes, hypertension, resuscitation of severe asthma, and assisted delivery as well as other essential services.

” The efforts of His Excellency have been recognized with 10 awards, both national and international, including the prestigious Excellence Award by the International Supply Chain Education Alliance (ISCEA),” the statement reads.

‘’Under the present administration, quality healthcare is not a privilege but a fundamental human right and this explains why the PHC Leadership Challenge that Kaduna State received, ranked the state as the best in Primary Health Care in the North West zone.”
