Adamu Abdu-Kafarati, the immediate past chief judge of the federal high court, is dead.

NAN reports that Kafarati passed away on Thursday night after observing his evening prayer.

A family source, who announced Kafarati’s passing, was quoted as saying: “It is with deep sorry that I announced the passing away of our elder statesman, Hon Justice Abdul Kafarati the immediate-past Chief Justice of High Court of the Federation and former Bauchi State Attorney General which occurred this night (Thursday) after magrib Salat at Abuja.”

Kafarati retired on July 25, 2019, on attaining the mandatory statutory retirement age of 65.

All judges of the Abuja federal high court led by John Tsoho, chief judge, have gone to condole with the family of the deceased.

Kafarati was born in 1954 in Kwami, Gombe state. He attended Kafarati primary school from January 1962 to December 1968. He attended Government Secondary School, Gombe from 1969 to 1973, as well as the Northeast College of Arts & Science (NECAS), Maiduguri from October 1973 to June 1975.

He studied law at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and graduated in 1978. He finished from the Nigerian Law School, Lagos in 1979.

Kafarati began his career as a state counsel II at the  Bauchi state ministry of justice. He attained the position of principal state counsel in 1987.

He served as assistant administrator-general before he was appointed a judge of the federal high court on October 31, 1991.

He was confirmed as substantive chief judge of the court on June 7, 2018.

On attaining the mandatory statutory retirement age of 65, Kafarati handed over to Tsoho in July 2019.
