The 32-year-old former Warri Wolves shot stopper is expected to replace Virgil Vries, Kaizer Chiefs reserve goalkeeper and Namibian international.
Vries has come under heavy criticism for his unimpressive performance in the Chiefs’ last two games against Mamelodi Sundowns and Cape Town City.
Akpeyi is likely to make his debut appearance for the South African club in Saturday’s game against Orlando Pirates.
