Kaizer Chiefs complete signing of Eagles goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi

Daniel Akpeyi, Super Eagles goalkeeper, has joined Kaizer Chiefs from Chippa United.

Chiefs announced the signing of the Nigerian international on Thursday.

Akpeyi’s move brings his four-year stay at Chippa United to an end.

“Kaizer Chiefs would like to confirm the signing of goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi from Chippa United. He has signed a contract for 1 year and 5 months,” the club tweeted.

Akpeyi is a stopgap replacement for South Africa international goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune, who is out injured.

The 32-year-old former Warri Wolves shot stopper is expected to replace Virgil Vries, Kaizer Chiefs reserve goalkeeper and Namibian international.

Vries has come under heavy criticism for his unimpressive performance in the Chiefs’ last two games against Mamelodi Sundowns and Cape Town City.

Akpeyi is likely to make his debut appearance for the South African club in Saturday’s game against Orlando Pirates.
