US Vice-President Kamala Harris has picked Tim Walz, governor of Minnesota, as her running mate in the forthcoming presidential election.

Harris announced her choice of Walz on Tuesday.

Waltz caught the attention of Democrats after he called Donald Trump and JD Vance “weird”.

“He’s just a strange, weird dude,” Walz said of Trump during a fundraising event.

The 60-year-old politician led Minnesota through the 2020 protests over George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis.

Walz also deployed the national guard to help quell riots that broke out during the demonstrations.

“As a governor, a coach, a teacher, and a veteran, he’s delivered for working families like his,” Harris said.

“It’s great to have him on the team.”

Harris became the official Democratic presidential nominee on Monday after securing the support of 2,350 delegates, the threshold required to earn the nomination.

President Joe Biden said one of his best decisions was picking Harris as his vice president.

The 59-year-old is the first Black woman and first Asian American to lead a major-party ticket.
