Kano commissioner arraigned for land ‘racketeering’

Faruk Faruk, Kano state commissioner of lands, was on Thursday arraigned before a high court over alleged land racketeering.

Also arraigned were Mahmud Bari, a former permanent secretary of the ministry, and Ahmad Ibrahim, a director.

The public complaint and anti-corruption commission of the state charged the trio for criminal breach of trust, which is punishable under section 97 of the penal code.

The accused were said to have sold a plot of land to one Baba Sharu Dala in April. They were alleged to have collected N5 million from him.

They also allegedly issued two accuracy permits C8 and C21, at Kuyan Tainna covered by layout plan TP/KNUPDA/338 at Kumbotso.

The occupancy permits were said to have been issued in the name of one Aisha Kabir and Maryam Ado and sold out to the duo at the rate of N300,000 each.

The three of them pleaded not guilty to the charges.
