Kano electoral commission issues certificates of return to new LG chairpersons

The Kano Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) has presented certificates of return to the 44 newly elected local government chairpersons in the state.

On Saturday, Sani Malumfashi, chair of the Kano Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), announced that the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) won all 44 chairperson and 484 councillorship seats in the LGA election.

Issuing the certificates to winners of the election on Sunday morning, Malumfashi added that the election was smooth and orderly across all LGAs in the state.

“By requirements of the electoral processes, the commission is saddled with the responsibility of issuing a certificate of return to the elected Chairmen and Councillors as legitimate leaders of their own local government areas. The Commission has the mandate to do that,” Malumfashi said at the ceremony.

“They are now charged with the responsibilities of attending to the official needs of their respective LGAs.”

Meanwhile, Rabi’u Bichi, chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano state, has described the LG election as “illegal”.

“The party’s stance is informed by a court order by  Justice Simon Amobede of the Federal High Court, Kano, which still stands, and which has rendered the election null and void,” he said.

“The judge ruled that the leadership of KANSIEC was partisan and biased towards the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the state. Since the judgment has not been appealed, the APC considers any outcome of the election illegal.”
