The joint taskforce committee on refuse evacuation (JTCRE) has evacuated over 400 trucks of waste across Kano in three days.
Aliyu Yakubu Garo, permanent secretary of the state’s ministry of environment, confirmed the waste evacuation during an inspection and monitoring visit on Thursday.
Abba Kabir Yusuf, Kano state governor, had set up a joint task force committee on mass waste evacuation.
The exercise aims to ensure the prevention of blocked waterways that could lead to flooding during the rainy season.

It also seeks to ensure proper waste disposal and clean roads in the state.
The permanent secretary visited about twenty locations where the operation is in progress, and commended the public for their cooperation and support in ensuring the successful evacuation of waste.
Garo commended Ahmadu Danzago, the committee chairman and other stakeholders, for their commitment and cooperation towards the smooth conduct of the exercise.

He charged residents to imbibe the culture of desilting their drains regularly to avoid flooding.
He said the Yusuf administration, in a short period, has displayed a passion to safeguard lives through the promotion of environmental sanitation.
Residents have also been directed to make use of waste bins, among other innovations.
He urged residents of the state to complement the government’s efforts towards protecting the environment from the hazardous effects of climatic change.

Garo said if the operation of waste evacuation exercise in Kano is sustained, the metropolis will wear a new look.
