Katsina govt: We pumped N700m into health sector to reduce medical tourism abroad

The Katsina state government says it used N700 million to procure some medical equipment in order to reduce the rate of people seeking medical attention abroad.

Mariatu Usman, commissioner for health, disclosed this during a recent a media summit in the state.

Usman said the equipment would be installed at laboratories, theaters, dental units, x-ray units, special baby care units, intensive care units, accidents and emergency wards in general hospitals across the state.

She listed some of the hospitals that would benefit from the projects as general hospitals in Katsina, Daura, Funtua, Kankia, Musawa, Baure and Jibia local government areas of the state.

Usman said the ministry had also been monitoring  an earlier contract for the purchase of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Computer Tomography Scanning machine (CT-Scan).

“The machines have successfully been installed at General Amadi Rimi Specialist hospital and are operational,” she said.

Halimatu Idris, commissioner for education, said the state government had spent N2.8bn on rehabilitation, renovation and upgrading of 27 secondary schools in the state.

Idris also said the Bello Masari-led administration has also bore the cost of examination of some students and provided scholarships.

Other commissioners also gave account of stewardship.
