Hassan Shalla, speaker of Kebbi state house of assembly, has been impeached, with the house installing Habib Jega, former speaker of the assembly as the new head of parliament.
The impeachment, which was carried out by 12 of the 24 members of the state house of assembly, was hinged on allegations bothering on breach of trust and embezzlement of allowances.
Abubakar Sabo, representative of Birnin Kebbi north constituency, presided over the sitting, while Aminu Gumbi of Yauri state constituency moved the motion for impeachment, seconded by Aliyu Mutubare from Kalgo constituency.
Twelve of 24 lawmakers are considered less than the two-third majority needed for the ousting of the speaker, casting a cloud of questions over the legality of the process.

Bala Waje moved the motion for the emergence of Jega as the new speaker. Jega was impeached for alleged proven incompetence in November 2014.
