Keeping up with Nigerian players: Aina, Odelusi shine but Moses, Success fail to play

Here’s how they fared this past weekend.

England

While Victor Moses was not included in the Chelsea squad that drew goalless at Norwich City, Alex Iwobi played from start to finish in Arsenal’s 4-2 loss to Nottingham Forest.

Wingback, Dominic Iorfa, lasted the entire match for Ipswich Town as the Tractor Boys lost 1-0 to Sheffield United at Portman Road.

Former Fulham forward Sone Aluko warmed the bench for Reading who drew 0-0 with Stevenage while Super Eagles fullback, Ola Aina, scored the match winner for Hull City in their 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

Isaac Success failed to make the Watford squad for the 3-0 win over Bristol City.

Sanmi Odelusi scored 11 minutes after he was introduced in the 46th minute as Cheltenham thrashed Colchester United 4-1.

Former Blackburn Rovers midfielder Hope Akpan came off the Burton Albion bench in the 86th minute to play for the Brewers in their 1-0 defeat at Birmingham City.

Nigerian-born Fred Onyedinma was on target for Millwall who walloped Barnsley 4-1.

Queens Park Rangers were shocked 1-0 at home by Milton Keynes Dons with Nedum Onuoha and Eberechi Eze in action for the hosts. Ike Ugho and Chuks Aneke were featured for the visitors.

Belgium

In the Belgium First Division B, former Shooting Stars attacking sensation Ighodaro Christian Osaguona found the back of the net for Westerlo who lost 2-1 to Tubize while Simon Zenke was a 67th minute substitute for Hugo Videmont.

Cyprus

Shehu Abdullahi played the full duration for Anorthosis Famagusta in their 3-1 victory over AEK Larnaca while Fidelis Irhene was pivotal in AEL Limassol’s 3-0 defeat of Etnikos Achnas.

Italy

Simy Nwankwo was introduced in the final fifteen minutes of Crotone’s 1-0 loss to AC Milan in San Siro.

Although Torino’s Joel Chukwuma Obi hobbled off with injury in the 34th minute, his side humbled Bologna 3-0. Former Golden Eaglets forward Orji Okwonkwo replaced Simone Verdi in the 67th minute.

South Africa

Former Inter Milan forward Victor Obinna Nsofor was brought on after 61 minutes to replace Nana Akosah-Bempah in Cape Town City’s 1-0 win against Platinum Stars.

Emmanuel Daniel failed to feature for Orlando Pirates as the team defeated Baroka FC 3-1.

Malta

Defender, Noah Ojuola, was sturdy at the back as Mqabba FC thrashed Rabat Ajax 3-0.
