Iheanacho hits brace to dump Man United out of FA Cup

Kelechi Iheanacho led Leicester City into the semi-final of the FA Cup with two goals and an assist in their 3-1 win over Manchester United at the King Power Stadium on Sunday.

The Super Eagles international scored in both halves as Leicester finally recorded their first win over Man United since September 2016.

Leicester pressed their opponents into making mistakes. Fred’s poor pass led to a Jamie Vardy strike that was saved by Dean Henderson. The goalkeeper could not save Fred a second time as Iheanacho pounced on the midfielder’s shocking pass, rounded Henderson, and slotted into an empty net for a 1-0 lead.

United levelled three minutes before halftime as Mason Greenwood scored his fifth domestic cup goal this season from 10 yards.

Youri Tielemans restored Leicester’s lead seven minutes after the interval, exchanging passes with Iheanacho before finding the bottom corner for his eighth goal of the season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was forced to introduce Bruno Fernandes, Edison Cavani, Scott McTominay and Luke Shaw but it was Leicester who inflicted more damage through Iheanacho.

The in-form 24-year-old headed in his seventh goal in four games to seal Leicester’s victory march to Wembley. He has now scored 13 goals in the FA Cup, more than any other player since he made his competition debut in 2016.

In the first FA Cup game of the day, Chelsea booked their final four place with a 2-0 win over Sheffield United, thanks to an own goal and Hakim Ziyech’s last-minute strike.

Quadruple-chasing Manchester City will slug it out with Chelsea in the semi-final while Leicester City will face Southampton in the other semi-final.

Wembley Stadium will host both games on April 17 and 18, including the final on May 15.
