The Kenyan Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) says it has found six bodies of “severely mutilated” females in various stages of decomposition.

In a statement issued on Friday, the DCI, alongside the police, said it responded to an urgent call from the public in the Villa area of Mukuru kwa Njenga, Nairobi, after the discovery was made.

Mohamed Amin, director of criminal investigations, said the bodies were wrapped in nylon papers and reinforced with nylon ropes.

Amin said they were found at an abandoned quarry filled with water and used as a dump site.

“Preliminary investigations suggest a similar mode of killing for the deceased,” the statement reads.

“Homicide detectives and officers from the Forensics Division of the DCI are currently analyzing samples to identify the bodies. The area has been cordoned off and designated as a crime scene as the investigation continues.”

Providing an update, the DCI said five more nylon bags were retrieved from the quarry on Saturday.

“Three bags contained female body parts as follows: the first bag had two legs from the knee downwards; the second bag contained two body parts, one from the neck to the waist and another from the head to the waist; and the third bag contained a lower limb from the thigh to the knee,” the statement said.

“For the other two bags, one contained a dog carcass while the other was full of garbage.”

The DCI said members of its team were accosted by an angry crowd, preventing them from accessing the crime scene.

The directorate assured the public that investigations would be thorough and urged them to allow for an effective job to be done so closure could be given to affected families.

The findings come at a time when the Kenyan police face heavy scrutiny for the extreme measures taken to quell last month’s anti-tax protests that claimed lives.

Human rights groups have also accused security forces of abducting Kenyans during the protests.

President William Ruto said those involved in the mysterious killings will be held to account.
