Keshi: Ejide is not injured

Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi says Austin Ejide, one of the goalkeepers in his 30-man provisional list for the World Cup, is not injured.

Speaking during a telephone conversation with TheCable on Monday, the Big Boss, as he is fondly called, debunked the news by a national television station that the Hapoel Be’er Sheva shot-stopper won’t be in Brazil because of this setback.

“Ejide is not injured. You guys said the same of Oduamadi but they are both fine. Why carry false news without confirming it?” he asked rhetorically.

Asked if he heard the news on TV as well, the former Eagles captain was blunt with his remark.

“I don’t listen to news on TV, because nothing good comes out of it. Most of you guys don’t confirm your stories before writing it,” he said.

“That is why some of the players don’t like to speak with you guys. They say something, but you write something else. They prefer talking to the foreign media.”

Penultimate Friday, Clemens Westerhof, former Super Eagles coach offered to be Keshi’s personal assistant in Brazil.

“I’m not asking Keshi or the NFF to pay me apart from the normal winning bonuses that will be paid to the players,” the Dutchman had said.

“I want Keshi and Daniel Amokachi to succeed, and that’s why I’m offering my services free of charge.”

Keshi was positive about the idea, but said a decison cannot be taken until he has consulted with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

“It is a good thing, but I need to talk to my people if it’s doable. It’s not something I can decide on my own.”
