Keshi: I have failed

Despite failing to book a ticket for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi still wants to continue in his role in the team. Although he reckons he has “failed the nation”, he believes the problem goes beyond coaching.

The former captain of the Nigeria national team believes sacking him will not reverse the dwindling fortune of the team.

“If a team fails, sacking the coach won’t solve the problem. The authority should look beyond the coach to find solutions to the problem,” Keshi said.

The Big Boss, who has been on a “pay-as-you-go” contract with the Nigeria Football Federation since the expiration of his terms of employment after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, admitted he’s a failure for not qualifying for the next AFCON to be hosted in Equatorial Guinea.

“I can’t deny it is a shame that we failed to qualify. On my part, I failed the nation but my players took South Africa for granted, a match they need to win.”
