Kevin de Bruyne has confirmed he will leave Manchester City when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The 33-year-old midfielder announced his exit in a farewell post on his Instagram page on Friday.

The Belgian said he is in the “final months” of his 10-year spell at the Etihad stadium and that the club “gave him everything.”

He will leave the club once his current contract runs out in June.

“Every story comes to an end, but this has definitely been the best chapter,” the post reads.

“Football led me to all of you – and to this city. Chasing my dream, not knowing this period would change my life. This city. This club.

“Whether we like it or not, it’s time to say goodbye. Suri, Rome, Mason, Michele, and I are beyond grateful for what this place has meant for our family. Manchester will forever be on our kids’ passports – and more importantly, in each of our hearts.

“This will always be our home. We cannot thank the city, club, staff, team-mates, friends, and family enough for this 10-year ride.”

In a statement afterward, Man City described De Bruyne as an “icon of the game” and said the club would pay “fitting tribute and farewell to one of the greatest players to ever play in the Premier League.”

De Bruyne joined City from Wolfsburg in 2015 for £55 million. A year later, when Pep Guardiola arrived at the club, the midfielder became one of the best players in his position.

The Belgian won 19 major honours with City, including six EPL titles, two FA Cups, five League Cups, one UEFA Champions League, one FIFA Club World Cup, one UEFA Super Cup and three Community Shields.
