ALERT: ‘Undesirable elements’ plotting to kidnap underage children

“Undesirable elements” have infiltrated Bauchi and are planning to kidnap underage children, Haruna Mohammed, spokesman of the police in the state, has said.

In a statement released on Monday, Mohammad said intelligence report indicated that the abductors intend to seize minors for ransom or other motives.

“Against this backdrop, the Command urged members of the public especially parents and guardians to monitor their children and be security conscious by paying special attention to strangers and report suspicious persons or objects within their neighbourhood to the nearest police station or through the following emergency number for prompt response 08151849417.”

Meanwhile, the Bauchi state police command’s anti kidnapping unit says it has arrested Yakubu Abdulhamid, a 50-year-old native of Jebere village in Nabordo district of Toro LGA of the state.

“The suspect and his gang were allegedly behind series of kidnappings along Nabordo axis,” he said.

“In addition to kidnappings, suspect also mediate and negotiate ransom, dispose cows of victim at a giveaway price and take the proceeds to his gang “on behalf of the victims.

“A search warrant was executed at his house and one fabricated revolver gun and catridges as exhibits were recovered.”
