Kidnappers free Siasia’s mother after ‘N600,000 ransom’

After almost two weeks in captivity, Beauty Ogere Siasia, the mother of Nigeria U-23 coach Samson Siasia, has been released by her abductors.

According to Goal.com, she was released around 10:30pm on Friday after her kidnappers had collected N600,000.

Dennis Siasia, spokesman of the family, told the website that the 72-year-old woman returned to her residence in Bayelsa state on Saturday morning.

“I sincerely thank the Nigeria Police and the DSS (Department of State Services) for their efforts in ensuring that Mama was finally released by her captors,” Dennis told Goal.

“My elder brother Samson Siasia was very happy to receive the news of Mama’s release and I think this will help a great deal in Samson’s concentration to the task ahead.”

The police have announced that they have successfully secured the release of Ogere Siasia, the mother of Dream Team VI coach, Samson Siasia, who was kidnapped two weeks ago in Bayelsa State.

Meanwhile, Butswat Asinim, police public relations officer in Bayelsa confirmed the release but did not say if any ransom was paid.

“Madam Beauty Siasia, who was abducted on the 16 November, 2015, was abandoned by her abductors along the East West Road, 28 November, 2015, due to hot pursuit by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Police Command,” he told journalists.

“She is hale and hearty and has been reunited with her family. The Police has intensified efforts to arrest the fleeing suspects.”
