Kidnappers ‘kill’ Imo businessman after collecting N10m ransom

Ikechukwu Ebelebe, a businessman from Imo, has been allegedly killed by kidnappers.

Ebelebe was found dead in Anambra state two weeks after he was reportedly abducted by gunmen at his hometown in Owerre-Akokwa, Ideato-north LGA of Imo.

His corpse was reportedly found by the villagers on Sunday morning where it was dumped in a bush in Orumba south LGA of Anambra.

The victim was reportedly killed after he had paid a ransom of N10 million to his abductors.

A source told TheCable that the villagers raised the alarm after perceiving a foul smell in that area which led to a search.

“After wandering in the bush for a while, they found the lifeless body where it was dumped. It has started decaying,” the source said.

“But with the help of police operatives, it was taken to a morgue where the police confirmed his identity.”

Speaking with journalists, Tochukwu Ikenga, Anambra police spokesperson, said the corpse has been released to investigating officers from the Imo state police command in the presence of the victim’s family members.

“The command is already assisting the investigating officers from Imo state to get information from the villagers that could help to unravel the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident,” Ikenga said.
