The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi state says its supporters were attacked at the supreme court and had their vehicles damaged.

On Friday, the apex court upheld the election victory of APC’s Usman Ododo, governor of Kogi, and dismissed the appeal of Murtala Ajaka, governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the state.

Thereafter, bottles were hurled at Ajaka outside the courtroom.

But in a statement, Kingsley Fanwo, director of media and publicity for the Kogi APC campaign council, alleged that members of SDP unleashed violence after noticing jubilant APC supporters.

Fanwo said the attitude was “undemocratic and uncivilised”.

“Upon noticing jubilant APC members within the court premises, Ajaka’s supporters unleashed violence, attacking the celebrating APC members and causing significant disruption,” he said.

Isaiah Ijele, spokesperson for the SDP governorship campaign council in Kogi, said APC’s claim was “false and pretentious”.

Ijele said it was Ajaka and SDP members that were attacked by APC members.

“We should be the ones complaining and condemning the actions of APC supporters on our supporters, not the other way round,” he said.
