The All Progressives Congress (APC) has temporarily suspended its campaign for the Kogi governorship election to honour Khadijat Yahaya, a member of the party who died after an attack by suspected thugs.
Kingsley Fanwo, spokesperson for the state campaign council, disclosed this in a statement.
Khadijat allegedly lost her life after a clash between supporters of the APC and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kotonkarfe area of the state last Friday.
Usman Ododo, APC governorship candidate, visited the family of the deceased in Kotonkarfe on Tuesday to commiserate with them.

Responding on behalf of the family, Saliu Akawu thanked Ododo for the visit.
He said Khadijat was a peace-loving person whose life was cut short by evil men.

Ododo also visited the palace of Abdulrazak Koto, the Ohimege of Kotonkarfe.
He described the deceased as a woman of peace who was desirous of seeing development in Kotonkarfe and promised to ensure justice for her family.
Since the governorship campaign commenced, the Kogi APC and SDP have been trading words over insecurity in the state.
The SDP had accused the ruling APC of intimidating the opposition through “violence”.

The SDP called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the state affairs to avoid a breakdown of law before, during and after the election.
The APC, on the other hand, denied the allegation, saying its priority is to protect the people of the state irrespective of political leanings.
