Kogi assembly approves recruitment of 1,050 hunters to improve security

The Kogi house of assembly has approved a request by the government to recruit 1,050 hunters to improve security in the state.

NAN reports that the house of assembly granted the request at the plenary session on Wednesday.

Salami Ozigi-Deedat, the commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, had sent a letter to the house for the recruitment of 50 hunters each in the 21 LGAs of the state.

In the letter, the state government said the reasons for the proposed recruitment are a shortage of security personnel in the state and the need to curb crime and criminality.

Umar Aliyu, the speaker of the assembly, read the letter during the plenary and reminded the lawmakers of their previous resolve to recruit hunters, given the security challenges in the state.

He said there is a serious shortage of manpower in the state, noting that the government’s request was in the right direction.

Consequently, the legislators unanimously approved the recruitment of 1,050 hunters.

The house directed that the payment of the salaries of the hunters would be made by the caretaker chairmen of the 21 LGAs.
