The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi state has confirmed the death of one Ibrahim Abdullahi, a delegate at the party’s governorship primary election.
The primary election came to a halt on Wednesday morning as gunmen invaded the venue of the exercise shooting sporadically.
The gunmen were said to have stormed the Lokoja Confluence Stadium during vote-counting, causing confusion among the delegates and aspirants.
Eight out of the 10 ballot boxes used in the exercise were said to have been sorted out and counted before the attack.

Speaking on the development on Wednesday, Bode Ogunmola, state publicity secretary of the party, said the delegate died while some party members were also injured in the stampede that followed the invasion of the stadium.
Ogunmola said the deceased delegate from Kogi local government area had been buried.
He added that Ahmad Fintiri, Adamawa state governor and chairman of the electoral committee, would come out with a decision on the development after a meeting.

Fintiri had noted that 2,388 delegates were accredited out of a total of 2,511 from 21 local government areas of the state, while 13 aspirants were cleared by the party to participate in the exercise.
However, William Aya, police public relations officer in the state, said the command had no record of death from the incident.
