Kwara APC meeting ends in chaos ahead of membership registration exercise

The stakeholders meeting of the Kwara state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Wednesday, was disrupted by violence.

The chapter of the ruling party has been battling with crisis among its stakeholders over the removal of Bashir Bolarinwa, state chairman of the APC, by the Mai Mala Buni-led national caretaker committee.

A faction of the party led by one Akogun Oyedepo had appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in the crisis.

Another faction of the party had, however, insisted that there was no crisis in the state, saying the removal of Bolarinwa as the chapter chairman was in order and life-saving.

Ahead of the membership registration exercise scheduled to begin next week in the state, stakeholders in the chapter met at the banquet hall of the government house in Ilorin, the Kwara capital, to chart the way forward for the party.

The meeting, which was said to have been convened by the John Adonoi-led national revalidation/registration membership committee, however, ended in chaos as members of both factions engaged in a free-for-all.

People were seen throwing chairs and various objects at one another, forcing the meeting to end abruptly.

It could not be confirmed what led to the fight during the meeting. However, not less than 10 members of the party were said to have been injured in the process.
