The ‎Kwara Elders Committee (KEC) has commended the anti-corruption crusade of President Muhammadu Buhari, saying ‎the country is witnessing “a systematic approach to anti-graft war.”

In a statement signed by Yekeen Obalowu, chairman of KEC, the group alleged that those under investigation were attempting to divert the public by claiming that some individuals were responsible for their trials.

Encouraging the current administration, KEC said if not stemmed, corruption will not only destroy the economy but lead to moral devaluation.

“For instance, the treasury single account (TSA), the Integrated Personnel Payroll System (IPPS) and the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) have all evidently blocked many leakages and saved Nigerians from official grafts,” the statement read.

“Also, the prosecution of highly placed public officials who have corruptly enriched themselves is also sending a strong signal to the international community that corruption and indiscipline will no longer be condoned in Nigeria again.

“We are particularly delighted that in spite of pressures from several quarters, President Buhari has remained true to his promise to rid the country of corruption, no matter whose ox is gored.

“As elders, we have watched helplessly as corruption in high places has wrecked unimaginable havoc on our communities and the future of our children. We are therefore determined than ever, to ensure that corruption that has riddled virtually all strata of our society, is curbed to the barest minimum, if not totally eradicated.

“This is why we are delighted to throw our weight behind the president and his team for fulfilling a major flank of the election promises of the APC-led federal government. We urge the president not to be deterred by the antics of the corrupt and their sidekicks.

“In the same vein, we urge all those that have been indicted so far to face their trails squarely and stop giving excuses for their inequities. Instead of shouting persecution, we expect all those that are being prosecuted to invest enough energy into their judicial trials so that the law courts can determine either their guilt or innocence at the appropriate time.‎”
