KWASU deputy bursar dies ‘of high BP’ after watching AFCON match

Ayuba Abdullahi, the deputy bursar at the Kwara State University (KWASU), is dead.

Punch quoted one of the associates of the deceased as conforming that he died on Wednesday after complaining of possible high blood pressure.

The source said Abdullahi passed away after watching the semi-final match between Nigeria and South Africa in the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Nigeria won the match by 4-2 on penalties after an extra time ended in 1-1.

Abdullahi was said to have gone to a viewing centre in the Sango area of Ilorin, the capital of Kwara, to watch the game before he started feeling uneasy.

“The deputy bursar watched the Nigeria/South Africa match from the beginning till the end of the extra time, till it was time for a penalty kick,” the source was quoted as saying.

“He complained that he was feeling dizzy, so he said he needed to go back home and rest not knowing that his BP had gone up.

“On getting home, he collapsed and was rushed to a private hospital in Sango and he was referred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. Before he could be attended to, he died.”

Saedat Aliyu, the university’s director of information, who also confirmed Abdullahi’s death, said he was buried on Thursday.

Aliyu stated that the actual cause of the deputy bursar’s death is yet to be ascertained.
