Kwesi Appiah returns as head coach of Ghana’s Black Stars

Kwesi Appiah was on Tuesday appointed as Black Stars coach by the Ghana Football Association — for the second time.

Appiah, who succeeds Avram Grant, was handed a two-year contract.

The 57-year-old will officially resume on May 1.

Appiah returns for a second spell in charge of the West African nation, having led his native Ghana to the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.

His previous stint as Black Stars coach came to an end after Ghana failed to advance from the group stages at Brazil 2014.

Appiah will be tasked with leading Ghana to a second consecutive World Cup appearance in Russia next year, with the Black Stars currently sitting third behind leaders Egypt and second-place Uganda in Group E of African zone qualifying.

Their next qualifier is a home match versus Congo on August 28.
