LaCasera reinstates 700 sacked workers

The National Union of Food, Beverage and Tobacco Employees (NUFBTE) on Friday confirmed that Lacasera Company Plc has reinstated the 700 workers it sacked in September.

Mike Olarenwaju, NUFBTE’s head of education department, confirmed the development to NAN in Lagos.

Olarenwaju said the management of the company met with union members to resolve the issues in dispute and that the workers had been asked to return to work.

He said officials of the union would meet with the workers next week to finalise pending issues.

In September, LaCasera management disengaged the workers over the alleged invasion the premises by hoodlums.

The workers arrived at the office on September 14 to be informed of the termination of their employment through a notice pasted on the gate.

The union officials picketed the company for several days and filed a suit at the national industrial council where the company also filed a motion.

In his ruling, Obaseki- Osaghae, the presiding judge, directed all the parties to “maintain the peace and take no action that will lead to a breakdown of law and order”.

The case was adjourned to October 19.
