Mask-styled musician, Lagbaja, who has been off the music scene for a while may have proven that his dignity comes before pecuniary gains by turning down a potentially mouthwatering offer by the Iyiola Omisore campaign Organisation.
‘The Masked One’ was approached with an offer to perform at the grand finale rally and reception of President Goodluck Jonathan, scheduled to hold next week in Osogbo, Osun State, but he turned it down moral grounds.
The candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Omisore had contacted the singer to help thrill the party’s supporters at the rally, which is being staged ahead of the August 9, 2014 governorship election in Osun state.
The Suuru Lere crooner feels he would be violating his morals if he accepts an offer from a person he believes was the mastermind of of the painful demise of his mentor and former attorney-general of the federation, Chief Bola Ige.

“Though the court of the land discharged and acquitted you (Omisore) in the murder case against the former minister of justice in Nigeria, the late Cicero of Esa-Oke and foremost nationalist, Chief Bola Ige, I have deep-rooted innermost conviction that you are culpable in the death of my mentor and benefactor,” Lagbaja said in response to the offer.
“If you offer me all the allocation of Osun State during your four-year-tenure peradventure you win (which I seriously doubt), I will not perform for Iyiola Omisore governorship election.”
Lagbaja, who is still a mystery to many for his anonymity, has a reputation for criticising political ills in some of his songs, such as Suuru Lere and 200 million mumu.
