Abdul-Azeez Adediran, a politician and founder of CORE Media Group, says his team is working towards ending the “era of giving party tickets to unpopular candidates” in Lagos state.

At a press conference on his political group known as Lagos4Lagos, Adediran said the movement was launched in 2016 with a view to change the extant narrative in the politics of the state, especially in the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He said such arrangement would also foster credibility during elections by ensuring equal grounds for political aspirants.

“What we are trying to do is to tell the leaders in our party that the era of giving tickets to unpopular candidate should die with the 2019 election. Because it is only in our party that you will see even when primary election is conducted and somebody wins, they will still give the ticket to an unpopular candidate,” he said.

The 42-year-old politician added that the movement is also aimed at “making Lagos work” for all residents of the state including indigenes and non-indigenes.

“Lagos4Lagos is not a mantra that only speaks to us – the indigenous Lagosians alone. It’s a mantra for everyone including non-indigenes because what we believe generally is that Lagos hasn’t worked for Lagos since 1999. It has only been working for few people,” he said.

According to him, the movement also provides political structure that would guarantee rotation of power among the various zones in the state.

Adediran said it is unfortunate that Badagry division, where he hails from, has not produced a governor since the country’s return to democratic rule in 1999, alleging that there is deliberate attempt to “relegate the area.”

The politician said the movement has so far established its presence at the grassroots in various local government areas of the state through its major arms which include Team Jandor, Ibile-Eko, Eko Forum
