The residents of Ajiran community in the Eti-Osa LGA of Lagos has called on Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of the state, to intervene in the “indiscriminate” sale of their lands by their leaders.

In a town hall meeting, the residents said the governor should direct Adetunji Akinloye, the Ojomu of Ajiran land and Yekini Bakare, one of the chiefs, to carry the entire community along in the administration of Ajiran kingdom.

Wasiu Akinsemoyin, general secretary of the Ojomu youths assembly, alleged that the monarch has not accounted for the proceeds of the  community lands that were sold under his watch.

“We have granted several interviews and called on the concerned authorities to intervene. Our leaders have sold off all our lands without undertaking any meaningful development in our community,” Akinsemoyin said.

“We lack good schools, quality healthcare centres, and motorable roads, and our youth have limited employment opportunities.”

Another member of the community, Ahmed Tajudeen, who is the chairman of Ajiran’s concerned indigenes, said the traditional ruler should account for the proceeds of the 176 hectares of land given to the community by the government in 2022.

“Oba Akinloye should call a meeting of indigenes and explain how the 176 hectares of land were sold and what the proceeds would be used for in the development of the community,” he said.
