The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has fixed July 12 for LGA elections in the state.
In a statement on Friday, Tope Ojo, head of public affairs at LASIEC, said the poll covers 57 chairmanship and 376 councillor seats.
Ojo said election into the offices of chairman, vice-chairman, and councillors in all the 20 local councils and 37 LCDAs in the state would hold that day.
NAN reports that Ojo said the date was chosen to prevent a leadership vacuum, adding that a re-run, if needed, would hold on July 19.

With the tenure of the current council administration winding down, LASIEC said it has intensified preparations for a seamless poll.
The commission said the issuance of the notice of election signalled the official commencement of the process. He urged political parties to collect nomination forms at its headquarters.
“LASIEC has fixed a meeting with all registered political parties for Tuesday,” Ojo said.

“Nomination forms for ‘substituted’ and ‘only candidate’ entries must be submitted between June 18 and June 25.”
Bola Okikiolu-Ighile, chairman of LASIEC and a retired justice, said the commission will ensure a fair process for all parties.
He reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to conducting a free, fair, inclusive, and credible election, while urging political parties and aspirants to strictly follow the electoral timetable.
