Lagos fixes hajj fare at N8.78m, gives January 31 payment deadline

The Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has announced a fare of N8,784,085.59 for intending pilgrims participating in the 2025 Hajj from the state. 

A statement on Monday by Saheed Onipede, the board’s secretary, urged intending pilgrims who have paid the initial deposit of N8.5 million to complete the balance of N284,085.59 before the deadline of January 31, 2025.

Onipede advised those who have obtained the intention form, but are yet to make payments to do so immediately to secure their slots.

He noted that the fares were finalised by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) after receiving approval from the vice-president, with amounts tailored to different zones.

Pilgrims from southern states, including Lagos, are to pay N8,784,085.59, those from the Borno and Adamawa will pay N8,327,125.59, while pilgrims from the northern zone will pay N8,457,685.59.

Acknowledging the economic challenges facing many Nigerians, Onipede expressed empathy and encouraged pilgrims to remain hopeful.

He assured them of Allah’s blessings and the spiritual rewards of embarking on the pilgrimage.

He noted that Lagos pilgrims will enjoy numerous benefits including accommodations close to the Haram in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, meals in local delicacies, spiritual counselling by Islamic clerics, and transportation via a “world-class airline”.
