Lagos launches climate adaptation, resilience plan

The Lagos state government has launched its climate adaptation and resilience plan (LCARP) as well as its climate change mainstreaming strategy.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, unveiled the plan on Tuesday at the 10th edition of the international climate change summit.

Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by Obafemi Hamzat, deputy governor of the state, said Lagos is taking significant steps towards climate adaptation.

He said the plan will be a guideline for the state to align with its climate change mitigation and adaptation strategy.

“It is important for us to recognise the urgency of our collective actions in mitigating the effects and championing adaptation initiatives,” Sanwo-Olu said.

“This resonates very deeply with the efforts and commitment of Lagos state government in combating climate change.

“Lagos has and will continue to take significant steps towards reducing our carbon footprints and emissions.

“We have undertaken studies to determine our carbon emissions to achieve zero emissions by 2050.”

The governor reiterated the commitment of his administration to ensuring that the state reduces its carbon footprints and emissions through the waste to energy initiative.
