Idowu Owohunwa, the Lagos state commissioner of police, has ordered the removal of the divisional police officer (DPO) at Okokomaiko Division.

The commissioner said the removal of the DPO is in connection to the alleged extortion of members of the public by his operatives.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos police spokesperson, confirmed the removal in a statement issued on Saturday.

Hundeyin said the DPO was removed for the lack of supervision of his operatives.

He added that the commissioner directed disciplinary action against the DPO and the operatives involved in the acts of extortion.

Hundeyin said the DPO and the operatives have been summoned to the police headquarters in the state.

NAN reports that the police operatives arrested a cell phone dealer, and allegedly labelled him as a fraudster before forcefully collecting N100,000 from him.
