A fire outbreak was recorded at the Alagbon injection station in Dolphin Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos, on Thursday.
The fire was as a result of an explosion of a 66MVA power transformer, within the 132/33kv transmission substation belonging to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
Witnesses said the situation was managed by the joint efforts of firemen from the Federal Fire Service, Lagos State Fire Service, Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Union Bank Plc.
Confirming the incident in a statement, Godwin Idemudia, spokesman for Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), said “a loud bang” was heard at the station around 5am in the morning.

According to him, the fire outbreak was a “minor one” with the TCN and EKEDC working to restore power to the affected areas including Moloney and Keffi “in a matter of few days”.
“A combined team of engineers and technicians from both EKEDC and TCN are already on ground to ensure that the Alagbon transmission injection substation is fully back in circuit within the shortest possible time,” he said.
“Measures have already been put in place to sustain power supply to affected areas through back-feeding from alternative power source.”
