The Lagos state government has directed the immediate closure of the pedestrian bridge linking Oshodi bus terminals two and three due to concerns over its structural integrity.

A statement on Friday by Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the commissioner for transportation, said the decision was taken to ensure public safety.

He directed the contractor responsible for the bridge’s construction to install concrete barriers at the entrances to prevent access.

“The order, in addition, mandated the contractor that handled the initial construction of the terminal, through the Office of Infrastructure, to place concrete barriers at the entrances leading to the bridge,” he said.

“This is to safeguard lives of pedestrians who use the infrastructure.”

The commissioner explained that the closure would allow for a comprehensive structural assessment to determine whether repairs or reconstruction are required.

In the meantime, pedestrians have been advised to use an alternative bridge located 30 metres away while the evaluation is conducted.
