The Lagos state environment and special offenses enforcement unit, also known as the task force, says its operatives have arrested 12 suspected land grabbers in the Ikeja metropolis.
In a statement on Thursday, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the spokesperson of the task force, said the suspects were arrested at NERDC road, following reports from members of the public.
Abdulraheem said the suspects were armed with dangerous weapons and also assaulted one Ashafa of Prestige Hotel in Ikeja.
“The suspects were arrested following credible intelligence that they were obstructing lawful occupants from carrying out their legitimate activities,” the statement reads.

“Part of the agency’s mandate is to prevent and completely halt the activities of land grabbers.
“Their activities, if not checked, could lead to disruption of developmental activities and rip Lagos residents of their hard-earned money.
“The agency will not sit back and watch Lagosians get cheated out of their landed property or structure.”

Abdulraheem said the suspects were charged in court and granted bail of N500,000 each with two sureties.
“One of the sureties must be a civil servant not below Level 14, while the second must either be a relation, a clergy, or a community leader,” he added.
“The court has adjourned the case till March 26 for further proceedings.”
He warned those involved in land grabbing in the state to desist, as the task force will deal with anyone involved in such an act.
