Folayinka Dania, the resilience officer at the Lagos state Resilience Office (LASRO), says the government is prepared to build financial resilience against water-related disasters and adopt proactive risk management and mitigation efforts.
Dania spoke on Sunday at the 2025 global risk and resilience fellowship workshop organised in collaboration with Resilient Cities Network and Howden Insurance Brokers.
She added that the state government would also adopt fundamentals of insurance and the role of risk transfer mechanisms in strengthening water resilience.
Nnamdi Udeh, the state team lead of advisory services at Arup, said the workshop was organised to emphasise how insurance can solve water resilience issues and to also create more awareness about water risks in the state.

The event, which brought together local and international experts, policymakers, and stakeholders, saw participants explore innovative insurance solutions like parametric, index-based insurance and other risk transfer mechanisms.
They also resolved to collaborate and implement the workshop’s recommendations, including the establishment of a water risk insurance facility and mobilisation of investments for water resilience projects.
The workshop also identified potential investment opportunities in the Lagos state water sector, like green infrastructure, water efficiency projects, and climate-resilient water management systems.
